One polytechnic for each Upa-zilla

November 01, 2009 00:00:00

Bangladesh has been expanding its industrial base for the last two decades. Development worth mentioning has been achieved in sectors like readymade garments, cement, textiles, steel, sugar, paper, pharmaceuticals, ship-breaking and shrimp culture. Manpower export has already proved to be a significant factor for the economy of the country. Information technology and ship-building industry have also great potential.
The country needs a huge qualified manpower with technical education to operate the existing industrial ventures, to expand the industrial sector and to export technical manpower abroad.
No industry can develop without proper manpower. In seminars and informal discussions, we all agree that technical education needs to be expanded but hardly any progress has been made in this respect during the last four decades of independence.
One polytechnic institute in each upazilla is needed to spread technical education all over the country. Technically qualified manpower case bring some relief to the unemployment problem as technically educated manpower can be exported abroad.
