Primary education getting importance
December 25, 2009 00:00:00
THE results of the first ever primary school certificate examination were published the other day. There was a great deal of enthusiasm and hope. The results have been satisfactory.
It is, indeed, a good sign that the authorities are doing a good job about reforming the country's education system with a greater importance given to primary education.
The Prime Minister's directive to the authorities concerned to organise a rational and time-suited curriculum for the tender-aged children deserves appreciation.
The decision of the ministry of education to utilise maximum working days for educating the students is another pro-active move that the authority is really concerned about the education sector. Furthermore, the instruction given by the prime minister about providing computer facilities and subsidising tiffin programme are also commendable. This helps the students to get standard and modern education and to reduce dropouts.
