Reducing trade deficit

November 17, 2009 00:00:00

RECENT statistics show that Bangladesh has managed to reduce its trade deficit in the first quarter of the current fiscal by $650 million compared to the period of the previous fiscal. The government deserves appreciation for the success.
Bangladesh needs to fully exploit its potentials for development. With timely initiative, Bangladesh has the potential to emerge as a middle-income country before long.
We should try to reduce our import dependence to save the resources for better use. We should only import goods that we cannot do without. At the same time, we should increase our exports.
This would ensure economic progress.
