BY reshaping the policy, Bangladesh can send more workers abroad to increase remittance earnings. The scene is entirely dominated by private manpower exporters, keen to make quick money. They pay no attention to the national economy or the poor job seekers, their earning sources. The manpower operators often defraud the job seekers causing them great sufferings. They not only cheat workers but also damage the image of the country abroad. The lucky workers who get jobs abroad through manpower agents, are often underpaid. The foreign employers do not honour the terms mentioned in the contracts.
The government should reshape the policy to send skilled workers according to the demand abroad. It should establish skill training centres for the purpose.
The government can also facilitate loans from the state-owned commercial banks on easy terms and conditions so that the workers can pay the fees to manpower firms, the air fares and also meet other expenses. The workers can repay bank loans from their earnings abroad.
