Reopening educational institutions
September 10, 2007 00:00:00
IT is a welcome development that the concerned authorities have taken steps to re-open the educational institutions -- colleges and universities -- in major cities of the country. The re-opening will facilitate the pursuit of normal academic life in higher seats of learning. A prolonged closure of such institutions, in the aftermath of the recent unfortunate incidents in the Dhaka University and some other academic institutions, would have caused sufferings for both students and guardians.
All concerned would hope that the educational institutions of the country would be open sooner than later. The students and teachers do need to make every effort to maintain peace and a congenial environment for pursuit of academic activities in their respective institutions. They have the major responsibility to ensure that no vested interest dares to vitiate the academic environment.
The nation cannot afford to see chaos and troubles in the public universities and other higher seats of learning. Time is precious and the students will suffer the most in the event of the problem of session jam worsening in the campus. We would earnestly expect that all concerned authorities would actively encourage the students to pursue their academic activities, while allowing no scope to others for exploiting them to serve any ulterior purpose.
