Rescheduling office timings

September 13, 2009 00:00:00

The government recently planned to reschedule the timings of government, semi-government, private, autonomous offices and banks to ease traffic gridlock. It is surely a good idea. However, earlier, we saw a few steps by the government go in vain due to lack of coordination. People hope for rapid change in the situation as they have been struggling to cope with the nagging traffic condition. This time the authorities should coordinate their efforts to be more effective. On the other hand the 'traffic-raiders' should also be compassionate and cooperative and maintain traffic rules.
However, we cannot fully control traffic jams only by rescheduling the office timings. The authorities should increase the number of large vehicles such as double-decker buses like Volvo, so that more passengers can ply in a little space. This will reduce the need for too many vehicles on the road during rush hour, without hampering easy movement of people. On the other hand, people should also consider the situation and grow the habit of using public buses rather cars and other private vehicles during rush hours. Thus we can hope smooth plying of vehicles on roads.
We are frequently reminding the government that people brought them to power with lots of hopes. The government must fulfil the dreams of the people. Otherwise, these people will seek for better change.
