Save NGO workers!

March 25, 2009 00:00:00

There are lots of non-government organisations (NGOs) working for the betterment of the people, society and for the country. But the workers (particularly related to loan operation) are going to die trying to collect repayment installments (kisty) from the people (mostly ultra poor). Mentally and physically they are overworked. They normally go to office at 7:00am and come back around 11:00pm and sometimes it takes longer and they have to work late night for two or three days, at the end of each month. They even work on holidays. If they fail to collect the installments the NGO authority cuts their salary. I met Russel, an NGO worker who didn't withdraw his salary for the last two months as he failed to collect the desired installments. It is an open secret but is it fair? So many bigwigs are getting national and international awards for working for the betterment for the people of our society!
I urge the government/ Human Study Groups/ INGOs/research groups to look into the case of ordinary NGO workers who are slogging away without any respite.
