Standard of BTV must be updated

September 28, 2013 00:00:00

The standard of BTV, state owned television, is yet to achieve some good standard. Honestly speaking, those of us have the option of private channels hardly take a pause on the BTV channel. If by chance I flip to the BTV channel it reminds me of television of the eighties. But one programme of BTV surely stands out even among all the glittery programmes of private channels and that is Hanif Sanket's "Ittyadi". Even today it has no competitor despite passing long 25 years and it is the longest running programme in the history of Bangladesh television. There is no sign of its popularity being diminished even after so many years. It is an astounding success for Hanif Sanket. We saw Hanif Sanket first time in the early eighties in "Jodi Kichu Mone Na Koren", presented by very popular anchor Fazle Lohani. I believe that the government should take steps to bring change in BTV so that it can gain its lost popularity. BTV should be made an autonomous body. Successive governments have been using BTV as their mouthpiece and destroying its credibility and creativity. So, if it gets an autonomous status, the image of the government will be brighter.
