Supplying of textbooks demands prompt actions
March 07, 2009 00:00:00
Will the government, specially the Education Ministry do something about the unavailability of the school text books? How long will we have to wait for them? While I personally could get seven of the books, the rest cannot be found anywhere. I have even looked for them in Banglabazar but in vain.
It is alright to pronounce the people responsible as irresponsible even criminal and that steps would be taken to punish them. But what about the books? Is anything being done so that our children get their books? It is already March, that is if the government and those who run it have not noticed.
Instead of announcing dire consequences for those whose negligence has caused this situation, they should start printing more books which is the only practical action that could be taken at a time like this. Yes, please print them, on an emergency basis, and send them to the bookshops as soon as possible.
I have heard about the others and seen my own children, those who do not have all the books as yet-there is a sense of panic in them. They think if they don't get the books soon they will suffer during the exams. As it is, they are currently sharing books with those who have it.
