THE recently passed Upazila Parishad Act made the local government unit a lame duck body. The government ignored the advice of the intelligentsia in making the law.
Now it is trying to cancel the lease of the cantonment house of Khaleda Zia with a political motive. The ruling party wants to root out the opposition party.
A large number of government officials have been made officers on special duty. Many of them are honest and dynamic officers. They are forced to pass idle time.
