Too many hazards around us

CITIZENS of the country have been facing the threat of various death traps. Crimes of different kinds, road accidents and intake of deadly chemicals such as "formalin" -- used for preserving dead bodies and now being used to keep fish fresh -- carbide for ripening of fruits, vegetables and other edibles, haunt them in their day-to-day life.
Much is discussed, reported, and acted upon by the functionaries of the government, but nothing lasting has yet been done.
A lot of time is wasted in planning and arranging funds to develop city traffic management. But strict measures are not enforced against speedy and reckless driving and to help address traffic problems. One way to stop reckless driving is to have more speed breakers; that will not cost much.
The provision for life-term jail sentence should be put in place against those responsible for poisoning food stuffs. And there should be similar punishment for drivers who cause fatal accidents due to speeding. We, the school- and college-going students, would certainly want some form of guarantee from the authorities concerned, that we can come to our educational institutions and return home safely after attending classes.
