WASA's dirty water
August 01, 2009 00:00:00
The coverage of the deplorable state of water supply in Dhaka city is made by the media from time to time. Dhaka WASA is entrusted to supply fresh water to the city residents but it does the opposite. WASA's sewer seeps through the water pipes, running in parallel, to create the problem in many areas.
Water supplied is not fit for drinking, bathing or even washing. Many people drink bottled water. But it cost them a lot. Many cannot afford it. Many families have to bring water from distant places. It means they are forced to limit water uses due to the costs of water as well as its transportation.
Unsafe water supply made life miserable in the city. The government needs to activate WASA to supply fresh water to its consumers. The city population in the affected areas is passing days in great misery. Most people to get nothing better than dirty and stinking water from WASA.
WASA must be sensitised about the public health hazard it has been causing. The consumers have every right to demand safe water supply from a key public utility like WASA.
