FIVE murders were reported in Dhaka city in the recent times. One of them involved the slitting the throat of a female lawyer. Another involved the slaying of a college going girl. A number of sensational robberies also occurred in the city during the last one month.
The ease and the speed with which the murders and robberies were committed helped to spread a panic wave among the citizens. Residents of the city have become apprehensive lest they should become the next targets of the robbers and murderers. Needless to say, this sense of growing insecurity must be immediately and effectively addressed. One of the major justifications for declaring emergency was improvement in law and order. This must be seen to have really happened.
