Why should they be spared?

December 03, 2009 00:00:00

There is no reason to consider the request of the Amnesty International (AI) to commute the death penalty of the murderers of Bangabandhu and his family members on humanitarian grounds.
On November 19, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentences for the murderers.
There can be no humanitarian ground to commute the death penalty of the perpetrators of murder, who even refused to spare the innocent children and helpless women in the family of the most popular leader ever born in this country. The murderers did it in cold blood.
The punishment will refrain others from committing such brutality. Therefore, the authorities should execute the punishment as early as possible.
