The ICC World Cup 2019 is the biggest platform to perform for any cricketer. As a result, many records would be created and broken. It has been more than two weeks since the tournament started, and there have already been some records scripted by the players. With more to come in the coming weeks, let us have a look at some of the records.

Individual records

Imran Tahir set for major milestone

South Africa leg spinner Imran Tahir created two records in the first match of the ICC cricket World Cup 2019 against England on Thursday. The Lahore-born spinner became the first spinner in the World Cup history to bowl the opening over of the match. Previously, Dipak Patel had opened the bowling for New Zealand during the 1992 World Cup but he had bowled the second over. Tahir also became the oldest player at the World Cup at the age of 40 years and 64 days. He broke the record held by Omar Henry who was 25 days younger when he was picked against Sri Lanka at the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

Coulter-Nile's 92 highest for No. 8 batsman Australian all-rounder

Nathan Coulter-Nile's 60-ball 92 against the West Indies was not just a personal ODI best for him but also the highest by a No.8 batsman in an ICC World Cup game. Coulter-Nile's knock, laced with eight fours and four sixes, was pivotal in Australia's 15-run win after the defending champions had been reduced to 79/5 at one stage of the match.

The average score by an Australian number eight since the 2015 World Cup stood at 16.3, the ICC said in a statement.

Chris Gayle registers most sixes in World Cup history

West Indies opener Chris Gayle overtook former South Africa captain AB de Villiers as the highest six-hitter in the history of the ICC World Cup. Gayle reached his 39th six when he smashed two back-to-back sixes of Pakistan's Hasan Ali in the second game of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Trent Bridge. AB de Villiers had scored 37 sixes in his entire World Cup career.

Dhoni makes two records in South Africa match

Former Indian skipper Mahinder Singh Dhoni broke couple of records against South Africa in the 2019 World Cup. Dhoni has now become the first wicket-keeper ever to keep wickets in 600 international innings on Wednesday. The 37-year-old Keeper stumped Andile Phehlukwayo off Yuzvendra Chahal's delivery to register another world record. Dhoni, now has 139 list A stumpings to his name, which is at par with the record of Pakistan's Moin Khan. The stumping also helped Dhoni surpass New Zealand's Brendon McCullum in most dismissals inflicted in World Cups. Now, Dhoni has 33 World Cup dismissals to his name.

Karunaratne only 2nd batsman to carry bat Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne on Saturday became the second batsman in the history of World Cup cricket to carry his bat in a match during their opening 2019 World Cup match against New Zealand. Karunaratne remained unbeaten on 52 as Sri Lanka folded for 136 against the Blackcaps at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Karunaratne played 84 balls and hit four boundaries and played at a strike-rate of 61.90. The only other cricketer to do so in a World Cup game was West Indies' Ridley Jacobs in 1999 .

Morgan 1st English cricketer to play 200 ODIs

England skipper Eoin Morgan scripted a unique record when he became the first English cricketer to play 200 ODIs. Previously, the record of most ODI appearances for England was held by Paul Collingwood of 197, from 2001-2011.

Mitchell Starc fastest to 150 ODI wickets

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc on Thursday broke Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq's long-standing record to become the fastest bowler to 150 ODI wickets. Starc also became the first in World Cup 2019 to pick up a five-wicket haul to lead his team to a 15-run win over West Indies in Nottingham. Starc finished with figures of 5 for 46 from his quota of 10 overs and bettered Saqlain's record in his 77th ODI match. Saqlain had achieved the milestone in 78 matches.

Country's records

Australia's first defeat while chasing since 1999

Australia's Sunday loss against India at the Oval is their first world cup loss while chasing, since 1999. The mighty Australians hadn't ever lost a world cup match while batting second in the past two decades. Their last defeat in a world cup chase had come against Pakistan during a league match of the 1999 World Cup, when they had lost by 10 runs in Leeds.

Pakistan post highest total without an individual century

Pakistan broke record, during ICC World Cup, against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The Men in Green scored 348-8 in their allotted 50 overs, which is the highest total by a team without an individual century in a World Cup match. This record was previously held by South Africa, which they registered during the 2015 ICC World Cup against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Wellington by scoring 341 for 6.

England 1st side to lose game despite 2 tons

England became the first side to lose a World Cup game despite two of their batsman reaching three-figures. Joe Root (107) and Jos Buttler (103) scored hundreds against Pakistan in Nottingham but England ended up losing by 14 runs.

India set highest total in a World Cup encounter against Australia

352/5 by India is the highest total in a World Cup encounter against Australia by any side. The previous highest was 312 by Sri Lanka at the SCG in 2015 while the previous highest batting first was 291 by West Indies at Lord's in the final of the inaugural edition in 1975.

Most number of abandoned matches

A record third game at the World Cup was abandoned as inclement weather led to Sri Lanka suffering their second washout in a row against Bangladesh in Bristol. The previous record of abandoned games stood at two, which happened at both the 1992 and 2003 tournaments.
