Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been on a record-breaking spree in the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup. He has been enjoying a dream-like World Cup in England and Wales. He ended a prolific World Cup 2019 with 606 runs and bagged 11 wickets.

Shakib is now the only Bangladeshi batsman to score more than 600 runs in a single international event.

The southpaw started this World Cup campaign scoring a match-winning 75 against South Africa. He hit another fifty (64) in the next game against New Zealand. He came up with back-to-back centuries in the next two games against England (121) and West Indies (124*).

His only innings under 50 came against Australia when he got dismissed at 41. But the left-hander came back strongly hitting 51, 66 and 64 respectively against Afghanistan, India and Pakistan.

Leading run-scorer

Shakib became the leading run-scorer in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

He achieved the feat in the match between Bangladesh and Pakistan at Lord's Cricket Ground in London on Friday.

Shakib displaced India's opening batsman Rohit Sharma at the top spot. The left-handed batsman had entered the field with 542 runs to his credit and he went on to play a knock of 64 runs to take his tally up to 606 runs.

3rd player to score 600 runs in single edition of WC

He created yet another record on Friday by becoming only the third player to cross the 600-run mark in a single edition of the marquee event.

The all-rounder, who was just 58-run short of the milestone heading into Bangladesh's last group stage fixture of the World Cup 2019, achieved the same by cutting an outside off delivery from Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi towards the third man for two runs in the 31st over of the innings.

Shakib eventually got dismissed for a 64-run knock off 77 balls as he finished his campaign at the quadrennial event with a total of 606 runs from the eight matches he played in this edition.

By achieving the milestone, he became the third batsman to score over 600 runs in the single edition of the World Cup. While the former Indian opener Sachin Tendulkar amassed 673 runs in the 2003 edition of the tournament, Mathew Hayden of Australia amassed 659 in 2007 World Cup.

Second cricketer to score seven 50+ scores

The top-order batsman registered his seventh fifty-plus score in the ongoing tournament and now holds the record for scoring the most number of fifty-plus scores in a single edition of the World Cup.

He became the only second cricketer after Sachin to score seven 50+ scores in a single edition of the World Cup.

Overall, the Bangladesh all-rounder has amassed 12 fifty-plus knocks and is placed second along with Kumar Sangakkara who also holds 12 fifty-plus scores in World Cup games.

9th place in list of all-time highest run-getters of WC

Overall, Shakib is also standing at the ninth place in the list of all-time highest run-getters of the World Cup. He has smashed a total of 1,146 runs in the 29 matches he appeared for Bangladesh in World Cups to stand only behind Tendulkar (2,278), Ricky Ponting (1,743), Kumar Sangakkara (1,532), Brian Lara (1,225), AB de Villiers (1,207) Chris Gayle (1,186), Sanath Jayasuriya (1,165) and Jacques Kallis (1,148).

Only player in WC history to score 600 runs, bagged 11 wickets

Besides this, Shakib also became the only player in the history of the World Cup to have scored 600 runs and bagged 11 wickets in a single edition of the tournament.
