Bldg collapse claims 4 lives in India

NEW DELHI, July 15 (Xinhua): At least four people were killed and three others rescued alive on Wednesday after a building collapsed in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, police said.

The building collapsed early Wednesday at Chukkuwala area of Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand.

India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) chief Satya Pradhan said four people were killed in the building collapse.

"Death count now four with the recovery of another body by NDRF," Pradhan wrote on social media.

Following the collapse, authorities rushed police, firefighters and NDRF personnel to carry out rescue efforts and pull out people from underneath the debris.

According to police officials, the injured persons were removed to the nearest hospital.

"The rescue work is underway at the spot," a police official said. "Further details are awaited."
