Imran Khan ties knot to 'spiritual adviser' in third marriage
LAHORE, Feb 19: Pakistani cricketer-turned-politican Imran Khan has tied the knot for the third time, his party said on Sunday, confirming his marriage to a woman local media call a "faith healer". Khan, who captained the Pakistan team when it won the Cricket World Cup in 1992, wed Bushra Watto in a low-key ceremony in the eastern city of Lahore. Khan has previously referred to Watto, a mother of five, as his 'spiritual adviser' and someone whose guidance he valued. Khan's previous two marriages, particularly when he wed his first wife, British socialite Jemima Khan, captivated international tabloids as well as local media in the deeply conservative Muslim nation of 208 million people. — Reuters

India to host World Environment Day
NEW DELHI, Feb 19: India will host this year's World Environment Day on June 5, the country's environment minister Harsh Vardhan and Erik Solheim, UN Environment's Executive Director, jointly announced here on Monday. This year's theme would be "beat plastic pollution" which would urge governments, industry, communities and individuals to come together and urgently reduce the production and excessive use of single-use plastic polluting the environment.— Xinhua

Three Egyptian soldiers die in Sinai campaign
CAIRO, Feb 19: Egypt said Monday three of its soldiers had been killed in the Sinai Peninsula during a wide-ranging operation against the local branch of the Islamic State group. Four "extremists" were also killed, the military said in a statement. It was the first military death toll announced since the army started its campaign on February 9. It says it has killed about 60 jihadists and arrested hundreds of suspects since the operation began. — AFP

Terrorists kill four persons, including poll candidate in Meghalaya
NEW DELHI, Feb 19: Suspected terrorists killed four persons, including one candidate for the ensuing polls, in India's northeastern state of Meghalaya, media reports said Monday. Jonathone Sangma, the official candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), his security officer and two of his supporters were killed in a powerful explosion Sunday night while they were returning from an election campaign. Polls are slated for February 27 in the state. — Xinhua

UK actress Emma donates $1.4m to fight sexual harassment
LONDON, Feb 19: British actress Emma Watson has recently donated one million pounds (over US$1.4 million) to the nation's Justice and Equality Fund for a crowd funding anti-harassment campaign. The Justice and Equality Fund was created by some 200 women in the British entertainment industry as well as activists to help women fight against sexual harassment, discrimination and abuse in all areas of work. — Xinhua
