16 dead in India bus accident
NEW DELHI, July 04: As many as 16 people, including school children, were killed when a commuter bus veered off the road and rolled down a gorge in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh on Monday. The accident occurred near Sainj Valley in the northern Indian hilly state's Kullu district this morning. Deputy commissioner of Kullu Ashutosh Garg told the local media that the private bus was carrying 45 passengers when it fell into the gorge near Jangla village around 9.30am. — UNB
Macron makes changes in cabinet
PARIS, July 04: French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday replaced a cabinet minister who is targeted by a rape probe, in a cabinet reshuffle. Just one-and-a-half months after the last reshuffle Macron made several key changes to other high-profile positions. French Red Cross director Jean-Christophe Combe was named the new solidarity and social cohesion minister after the accusations against Damien Abad. — AFP
China renews blue alert for rainstorms
BEIJING, July 04: China's National Meteorological Center on Monday renewed a blue alert for rainstorms in some parts of the country. From 2 p.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Tuesday, rainstorms are expected in parts of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Henan, Anhui and Shandong, and heavy downpours up to 180 mm may lash parts of these regions, the center said. — Xinhua
Security forces kill attacker in Heart
HERAT, July 04: Unknown armed men targeted a mini-bus of the army corps in Herat city, the capital of western Afghanistan's Herat province, on Monday. One attacker was killed by security forces on the spot, the provincial head of information and culture Naemul Haq Haqani said. "No civilian has been hurt in the attack and only the attacker was killed by security forces," Haqani said on social media.—Xinhua
New giant water lily species discovered
SUCRE, July 04: A new species of giant water lily has been discovered - and it's been hiding in plain sight for 177 years. The huge plant had been in the archives of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and was growing in a number of aquatic collections but it was mistakenly identified as another species. — BBC
Jihadists kill 15 in Burkina Faso
OUAGADOUGOU, July 04: At least 15 civilians have been killed in an attack by suspected jihadists in northwestern Burkina Faso, sources said Monday. The raid happened Sunday night in the village of Bourasso in Kossi province, a security official said, adding there were "about 15 dead", including children, while a source in the area put the death toll at around 20. — AFP
