Thai night club fire kills 13 people, injures 35

BANGKOK, Aug 05: Thirteen people have been killed and 35 injured after a fire broke out on Friday at a night club in Thailand's Chonburi province, southeast of the capital Bangkok, a police official said. Police Col. Wuttipong Somjai said by telephone that the fire at the Mountain B night club in the Sattahip district had started at about 1:00 a.m (1800 GMT Thursday) and that all the victims up to now were Thai nationals. —Arab News

Five killed in fiery multi-vehicle crash in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Aug 05: At least five people were killed and nine others injured Thursday afternoon in a fiery multi-vehicle crash in Los Angeles, authorities said. The Los Angeles County Fire Department said in a tweet that the agency responded to the crash at about 1:41 p.m. local time (2041 GMT) at La Brea and Slauson avenues. Five people were pronounced died at the scene. Eight of the nine injured were transported to area hospitals, said the department. — Xinhua

Palestine calls for help to stop Israeli settlement expansion

RAMALLAH, Aug 05: Palestine on Thursday called for international intervention to stop the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and protect the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The international community has to intervene to stop Israel from confiscating land, demolishing homes, burning trees, and destroying infrastructure in the Palestinian territories, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. — Xinhua
