Ukraine strike damages Crimea bridge
MOSCOW, June 22: A strike has damaged a bridge linking the annexed Crimean peninsula to a region of southern Ukraine partially occupied by Russia, a Russian official said on Thursday. "During the night a strike hit the Chongar bridge. There are no victims," Sergei Aksyonov, the Russia-installed governor of Crimea, said on Telegram. The bridge connects Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, to the Ukrainian region of Kherson. — AFP

MOSCOW, June 22: At least eight people died Wednesday in the crash of a passenger bus, a truck and an automobile in Russia's Dagestan region, authorities said. The Interior Ministry said 16 people were injured along with the eight killed; the Interfax news agency cited an unnamed emergency services worker as saying nine died and 20 were injured. There were no immediate details of how the crash occurred or how many of the casualties were aboard the bus, which was travelling from Moscow to the city of Khasavyurt about 1,500 kilometers (925 miles) to the south. — AP

BRASILIA, June 22: Far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro risks losing his right to run for office for eight years, as Brazil's electoral court begins delivering its ruling Thursday on charges stemming from his unfounded allegations against the voting system. The Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) is trying the former president on charges he abused his office and misused state media when, in July 2022, he convened foreign diplomats for a meeting in which he insisted Brazil's electronic voting machines were susceptible to large-scale fraud. — AFP
