Election conspiracy case: Trump
asks for recusal of judge
WASHINGTON, Sept 12: Former US president Donald Trump filed a motion on Monday seeking the recusal of the judge who is to preside over his historic trial for conspiring to overturn the 2020 election. US District Judge Tanya Chutkan should step aside because of past statements she has made about the former president that demonstrate bias, Trump's attorneys said in a court filing. "Judge Chutkan has, in connection with other cases, suggested that President Trump should be prosecuted and imprisoned," they said. —AFP
5.5-magnitude quake hits Myanmar
YANGON, Sept 12: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted northwest Myanmar at about 1:58 a.m. local time on Tuesday, the country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced. According to the DMH, the epicenter was determined to be about 16 miles (25.7 km) to the north and northwest of Paungbyin town of Sagaing region. The epicenter, with a depth of 58 km, was initially determined to be at 24.49 degrees north latitude and 94.78 degrees east longitude, the DMH said. The earthquake was also strongly felt in Homalin town of Sagaing region, a local resident said. — Xinhua
Detective recovers stolen Van Gogh
THE HAGUE, Sept 12: A Dutch art detective has recovered a precious Vincent van Gogh painting that was stolen from a museum in a daring midnight heist during the coronavirus lockdown three-and-a-half years ago, police said Tuesday. Arthur Brand took possession of the missing painting, the 1884 "Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring", worth between three and six million euros ($3.2 million), at his Amsterdam home on Monday, stuffed in a blue IKEA bag. — AFP
