UN nuclear agency's board votes to

censure Iran for failing to cooperate

VIENNA, June 06: The U.N. nuclear watchdog's board on Wednesday censured Iran for failing to cooperate fully with the agency, diplomats said, calling on Tehran to provide answers in a long-running investigation and reverse its decision to bar several experienced U.N. inspectors. Iran's Foreign Ministry issued a late-night statement in response to the vote, saying it "strongly condemns" the action taken by the IAEA's board of governors and called the move political. — AP

Four killed, 27 injured after trains

collide in the Czech Republic

PRAGUE, June 06: A passenger train collided head-on with a freight train in the Czech Republic, killing at least four people and injuring 27 others, officials said Thursday. Interior Minister Vít Rakušan said the crash took place late Wednesday night in the city of Pardubice, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Prague. The high-speed passenger train belonged to the private RegioJet company. Rakušan said none of the injured was in life-threatening condition. — AP

South Korean activists send

propaganda balloons north

SEOUL, June 06: South Korean activists said Thursday that they had sent 10 balloons loaded with anti-Kim Jong Un leaflets and K-pop music into North Korea, in response to hundreds of trash-filled balloons from Pyongyang. North Korea has said its recent balloon blitz-carrying bags of garbage such as cigarette butts and plastic waste-were retaliation for previous missives sent by the activists. — AFP
