Not easy to agree Ukraine peace
deal with US, says Lavrov
MOSCOW, Apr 15: Russia's foreign minister said in an interview that it was not easy to agree with the United States on the key parts of a possible peace deal to end the war in Ukraine. "It is not easy to agree the key components of a settlement. They are being discussed," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper when asked if Moscow and Washington had agreement on some aspects of a possible peace deal. —Reuters
Pandemic treaty talks inch towards deal
GENEVA, Apr 15: Countries hoping to end more than three years of negotiations on battling future pandemics met for talks on Tuesday, after reaching a preliminary agreement last week. It has been more than five years since the Covid-19 pandemic began, killing millions of people and devastating economies. Experts say an accord has become even more crucial with new health threats, ranging from H5N1 bird flu to measles, mpox and Ebola. —AFP
French prisons targeted with arson, gunfire
PARIS, Apr 15: Cars have been set on fire near several prisons in France while one was targeted with automatic gunfire, in possible retaliation against government anti-drug policies, justice ministry officials said on Tuesday. In recent months Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin and Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau have vowed to intensify the fight against narcotics and drug-related crime. —AFP
