Grenade attack hits Kiev office bldg
KIEV, Aug 26: Ukrainian police said Monday they were investigating a grenade attack on a Kiev office building that caused damage but no injuries. An unknown assailant fired the rocket-propelled grenade at the building in central Kiev at 1:30 am (22:30 GMT), police said. The attack damaged the facade, windows and interior of the building, which houses a Ukrainian bridge construction company called Mostobud. — AFP
DR Congo announces new govt
KINSHASA, Aug 26: The Democratic Republic of Congo announced a coalition government on Monday, seven months after the inauguration of new president Felix Tshisekedi. "The government is finally here. The president has signed the decree and we will begin work soon," Prime Minister Sylvestre Ilunga told reporters beforethe members of the new government were announced by the presidency's pokesman. — AFP
Spain's Air Force plane plunges into sea
MADRID, Aug 26: Spain's Defence Ministry says one of its military light attack aircraft has crashed into the sea off a beach in southeastern Spain and the lone pilot was able to eject before impact. A ministry statement says rescue vessels are searching for the airman. — AP
Gas explosion hits Maryland office
NEW YORK, Aug 26: A powerful natural gas explosion badly damaged a Maryland office complex and shopping centre Sunday morning, ripping away part of the facade and exposing twisted metal, authorities said. No injuries were reported in the thundering blast, which occurred at about 8 a.m. It came after authorities said they had evacuated the area around the complex because of a suspected early morning gas leak near the complex in Columbia, Maryland. — AP
Scientists fertilise 7 white rhino eggs
CREMONA, Aug 26: Eggs removed from the last two female northern white rhinos have been fertilized with sperm from the now-dead last male, but it will be about 10 days before it's known whether the eggs have become embryos, an Italian assisted-breeding company said Monday. — AP
