Lane for cyclists
October 01, 2019 00:00:00
Streets of the Dhaka city have no special facility for cyclists despite growing popularity and utility of bicycles. Rather, reckless driving and desperation of many motor cyclists often result in chaotic traffic in a city which is plagued by congestion regularly. However, a news item that a nine-kilometre bike lane is being constructed in the city's Agargaon area, has come as a relief to many. Dhaka North City Corporation deserves appreciation for this initiative, which, we hope, would be taken elsewhere, too.
Dedicated lanes for bikes would definitely benefit cyclists, but more importantly, such facility would make life of the pedestrians secure and comfortable since some motorcyclists often use footpaths to avoid traffic congestion. We believe, if more such facilities are developed, more people will find incentives to walk to reach nearby destinations. That will also make Dhaka a far better city as many other cities around the world look like.
