Recruiting agencies should be held accountable

A recent research has revealed that middlemen and recruiting agencies in the human resources sector are engaged in corruption and deception. The research has suggested that all recruiting agencies and middlemen be brought under a legal framework.

Remittances from migrant Bangladeshi workers, who are staying and working abroad, are one of the biggest sources of foreign currency after the ready-made garments sector. As such, all the stakeholders related to migration sector should be brought under an umbrella to ensure transparency, accountability and lower migration cost for migrant workers.

Additionally, the research suggested that migration from the country is four times more costly compared to other countries. This is because most migrant workers have little alternative other than to rely on middlemen. Most of these middlemen take advantage of the situation and charge high prices.

Proper measures need to be taken by the government in this regard.
