NBR eyes record tax collection in 'Mujib Year'

FE Report | August 29, 2019 00:00:00

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is eyeing a record tax collection in 2010, the 'Mujib Year', marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"We would exhibit our respect for Bangabandhu through our activities. We expect our revenue collection this year would surpass all previous figures," said NBR chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.

He was addressing a condolence meeting and doa mehfil as the chief guest on Wednesday to observe the martyrdom anniversary of the father of the nation.

NBR was formed during the lifetime of Bangabandhu, Mr Bhuiyan said, adding that they are preparing to observe the 'Mujib Year' with prudent planning.

"We'll organise special sessions on the life and works of Bangabandhu at two NBR academies (tax and customs) with the help of scholars on the sidelines of regular training programmes."

The meeting was jointly organized by BCS (taxation) Association and BCS (customs and VAT) Association in the capital's IDEB auditorium.
