SYLHET, Dec 05: Incentive distribution for four Rabi crops completed in Sylhet division.
A total of 18,480 farmers, including 9,200 for Boro, 3,700 for maize, 5,500 for mustard and 80 for BT brinjal, received the assistance through the upazila committees.
The incentive distribution ended last week, a DAE official said.
State Minister for Finance MA Mannan was present at the incentive distribution programme in some areas of Sunamganj while law makers and upazila chairmen attended their respective upazilas at the time of distribution formally.
Under the programme the total of 18,480 poor and marginal farmers in the region were listed earlier for farm assistance. It cost Tk 184,45,754, said the official, adding, they were given seeds, fertilisers and other assistance.
Of the total, Tk 9.22 million were spent for Boro paddy, Tk 79,604 for BT brinjal, Tk 4325,750 for mustard and Tk 4817,400 for maize cultivation.
The incentive programme would help cover farming of 1,700 bighas of maize in Sylhet, 500 bighas in each of Habiganj and Moulvibazar while 1,000 bighas in Sunamganj.
A farmer would get 2.0 kgs of seed, 20 kgs of DAP and 10 kgs of MoP fertiliser for one bigha of land.
For mustard farming on 5,500 bighas of land in total, 1,500 farmers in each of Sylhet, Habiganj and Sunamganj districts received the incentives while it is 1,000 farmers in Moulvibazar. One farmer was given incentives for one bigha land. One kg seed, 20 kgs of DAP and 10 kgs of MoP fertiliser was given free.
In total 80 farmers of BT brinjal got the incentives. Among them 20 farmers are in each of the districts for the incentives, the sources informed.
Of the total 9,200 Boro paddy farmers, 1,600 are in Sylhet, 1,400 in Moulvibazar, 2,000 in Habiganj and highest 4,000 in Sunamganj are getting the incentives.
A farmer is given 5.0 kgs of seed, 20 kg of DAP fertiliser and 10 kg of MoP fertiliser for one bigha land under the special programme.
