Magura achieves Boro procurement target

MAGURA, Aug 28: Boro paddy procurement target has been achieved in the district.

Magura district food office sources said Boro paddy procurement drive started in the district from April 25. Procurement target was 3,260 tonnes.

The government procured the rice at Tk 26 per kg. The deadline for procurement target was initially August 31.

But the government extended the date until September 15 as the procurement drive was facing set back in different districts.

Farmer Golam Hossein of Belnagar village under Magura Sadar said existing rate of Boro paddy in the local market is Tk 16 to Tk 17 per kg. But the government procures the same amount at Tk 26.

Magura district food controller Shekh Moinul Islam said, "We have achieved the Boro procurement target this season. Farmers are also happy as they got good price for their crop."
