Magura eyeing bumper turmeric yield

MAGURA, Oct 14: Magura growers are expecting a bumper production of turmeric this season.
Sources said turmeric is turning fortune wheel of many people in the area.
A good number of growers said they will make a good profit if the market remains busy.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura, sources said some 865 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of turmeric cultivation this season with the production target of 3,028 tonnes.
Belal Biswas of Bashkuta village under Magura Sadar said he has brought two bighas of land under the cultivation of turmeric. "I am expecting some 100 maunds of production", he added.
Executive director of Palli Prokriti Shafiqul Islam turmeric can be produced with other crop in the same land. It is a profitable venture.
Magura DAE official Shohrab Hossein said farmers will achieve a bumper output of turmeric if weather condition remains favourable.
He further said turmeric farming is increasing gradually in the district.
