The Financial Express (FE) celebrated its 25th founding anniversary on Tuesday with a vow to attain newer milestones along its onward march and transcend tomorrow.

To mark the auspicious silver jubilee of publication of the country's lone English national financial daily, the FE organised a grand gala at Radisson Blu Water Garden in the city.

Top government officials, diplomats, politicians, economists, businessmen, senior journalists, academicians, members of the civil society, equity holders, well-wishers, patrons and members of the FE family joined the celebration.

Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman of the International Publication Limited (IPL), the owning company of the FE, Mr Syed Manzur Elahi, Managing Director of the IPL, and Mr. Shah Husain Imam, Editor of the FE, spoke on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, IPL Chairman Mahbubur Rahman acknowledged with appreciation the pro-active support the shareholders of the IPL extended towards the daily's onward march.

Remembering the contribution of late FE editor AHM Moazzem Hossain, Mr Rahman said he was the guiding force behind the success of the specialised financial daily.

"We are firmly committed to making every effort for moving ahead with the FE to better serve policy makers, readers, patrons and other stakeholders," he said.

He expressed the hope that the FE would play a greater role in promoting the national economy in general and the private sector in particular.

Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director of the IPL and eminent business personality Mr Syed Manzur Elahi said the FE has been trying since the very beginning of its journey to make the newspaper more credible and well accepted through upholding objectivity of its news and views.

He thanked valued clients, readers and patrons for their support to take the FE to this height.

Eminent economist Wahiduddin Mahmud praised the FE for its neutral, authentic and impartial financial reporting, especially reliable business data on economic happenings, and having a good number of editorial pages.

"It (FE) has a dedicated readership because of its indepth analytical news and authentic data," he said.

Paying tributes to late FE Editor Moazzem Hossain and recalling his profound contributions towards establishment of a professionally-renowned financial and business daily like the FE, incumbent FE Editor Shah Husain Imam resolved to take his legacy forward working with his colleagues.

"We, in the FE, stand for an open, competitive market-oriented economy, shorn of the symptoms of kleptocracy or crony capitalism-and that too, in a liberal, democratic socio-political environment," Mr Imam underscored.

The FE Editor laid emphasis on establishing society with equal opportunities for all, securing distributive justice, reaping demographic dividends through transformative human and social capital development, of which skill multiplication shall be the centre-piece.

Being distinctive as a financial or economic daily does not mean that the FE pares down general news, concerning socio-political and other developments at home and abroad.

The FE believes that the media can be a catalyst for change - the change that can help Bangladesh move steadily forward, he mentioned.

Information is a vital tool in today's world. Informed decision making with conceptual and contextual clarities, at both macro and micro-levels, be it for businesses or public organisations or any others, can lead to better outcomes, in terms of performance, he observed.

Mr Imam acknowledged the valuable support and cooperation that the FE has always received from its owning company, IPL, in general and the esteemed members of its board of directors in particular, valued readers, well-wishers and patrons.

On the occasion of its founding anniversary, the FE proudly recognised three unsung heroes in three areas-farmers, factory workers and non-resident workers - for their outstanding contributions to the country's economy.

As part of the acknowledgement, the FE awarded two individuals in dairy and apparel sectors for their remarkable success they achieved in the shortest possible of time. The awardees were dairy farmer Rubel Dewan and Vice President and head of production at Continental Garments Mr Monjurul Islam.
