Citizen's Platform for SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), Bangladesh adopted on Sunday a 25-point declaration, including opportunities for the youth in making development polices and their implementation.
The declaration includes active participation, formation of youth council as per the Youth Law 2017 as part of the process youth parliament, budget allocation for different developmental activities.
It also declared to create youth entrepreneurships, youth bank and make an institutional initiative to improve physical health.
Special allocation for the youth of haor, char and coastal areas, full implementation of laws related to youth development and protection have been highlighted in the declaration.
Effective steps against the abuse of youths in political activities and amending laws to ensure safe road and transportation system were also declared.
The 'Youth Deceleration 2018' came at a programme styled 'Youth Conference 2018: Bangladesh and Agenda 2030-Aspirations of the Youth' at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in Dhaka.
Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, the Distinguished Fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and also convener of the platform, gave an address of welcome.
Biswa Sahitya Kendra chairman Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed and Transparency International Bangladesh executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman, among others, spoke on the occasion.
CPD executive director Dr Fahmida Khatun chaired the event where Abul Kalam Azad, principal coordinator of SDGs affairs, was present as the chief guest.
NGO Affairs Bureau director general Md KM Abdus Salam was present as the special guest.
The declaration also identified some challenges like youth unemployment, lack of quality education and job-friendly skills and youth-oriented governance.
