FE Report | May 07, 2019 00:00:00

Some 73 per cent of surveyed Rohingyas in the refugee shelters in Cox's Bazar of Bangladesh do not believe that the repatriation will happen in two years' time.

Besides, 69 per cent of them also do not believe that Myanmar will recognise and accept them as Burmese citizens in the next two -year time frame.

Xchange, a research institution, came to Bangladesh in March this year and conducted a three-week survey between March and April on 1277 Rohingya refugees living in protracted displacement.

The survey was published on May 01.

In the meantime, one in three Rohingyas (33 per cent) respondents would consider Saudi Arabia as a potential destination, the survey added.

Almost half (48 per cent) of respondents had not received any education currently residing in the refugee camps.

Another big dissatisfaction of the displaced Myanmar nationals is no job opportunity. The vast majority of respondents (88 per cent) were not employed at the time of the survey, it added.

The survey added that nine in ten Rohingya adults interviewed (91 per cent) believed that there were Rohingya families in the camps who had a child that had gone missing since they had moved to the refugee camp.

In the recent survey respondents also provided their opinion on their health, education, employment, harassment, human trafficking, Rohingya relocation to an inland and so on.
