No room for militancy in BD: Home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Monday frustrated people and real terrorists are emerging as militants in a new dimension, report agencies.

"There is no room for militancy and extremism on the soil of Bangladesh. Law enforcers are working efficiently to resist militancy and terrorism," he said.

The minister made the remarks while talking to journalists after speaking at a programme at Chuadanga Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-6 head office to destroy drugs seized during different times.

He said the government adopted a zero tolerance policy against illegal drugs.

"Those who will surrender will be given chances, but stern action will be taken against the remaining drug traders and peddlers," he added.

Terming the claim of IS presence in Bangladesh part of an international conspiracy, the minister categorically said there is no existence of IS group in Bangladesh.

The minister said some disgruntled elements are trying to be heroes using the name of the organisation.

Asaduzzaman said people will not give shelter to these militants.

BGB Director General Major Gen Shafeenul Islam, southwestern region Additional DG Ainul Morshed Khan Pathan, Khulna Sector Commander Deputy DG Arshaduzzaman, Chuadanga-1 MP Solaiman Haque Joarder and Chuandanga-2 MP Hazi Ali Azgar Togor were, among others, present on the

occasion.

Later, the minister witnessed destroying huge quantity of illegal drugs including heroin, yaba and phensedyl.
