Weak rule of law leads to spate in crimes: GM Quader

Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader said on Monday the incidents of killing, rape and injustice and misdeeds are on the rise in Bangladesh for weak rule of law and lack of good governance, reports UNB.

"The growing incidents of killing and rape in Bangladesh have now become an international issue," he said.

The JP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a programme to introduce the members of the newly-formed committee of the Jatiya Sangskritik Party at the party chairman's Banani office in the city.

GM Quader said the rate of crimes has marked a rise in the country as the offenders remain out of touch through loopholes in the law.

"People are taking law into their own hands because of the shortcomings in good governance, which is not acceptable in any way," he observed.

He bemoaned that the people of the country have taken to the streets to protest rape incidents. "There's nothing more shameful than this."

Expressing his grief and wonder, the Jatiya Party chief said a young man was beaten to death and set a man on fire in Burimari area of Lalmonirhat. "He couldn't survive even by seeking shelter in a local Union Parishad office."

He said had the youth committed any crime he could have been punished by the existing laws of the land after putting him on trial. "I strongly protest and condemn the brutal killing of the youth."

GM Quader said it is now visible that people have no security of their life and property. "The deaths of people in road accidents seem to have become an order of the day."
