Navy clinch title for 3rd time in a row

National star-studded Bangladesh Navy clinched the Victory Day Hockey title for the third time in a row, reports UNB.

They beat Bangladesh Army by 5-4 goals in the final at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium in the city on Wednesday.

With day's the feat, the sailors team not only earned rare feat of making hat-trick championship in the Victory Day Hockey, but also took revenge of their 3-4 goals defeat against Bangladesh Army in tie breaker after 1-1 draw in the stipulated period in the last league match on Monday.

However, Bangladesh Army finished runners-up in the meet for the 2nd successive occasions.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) President and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshall Masihuzzaman Serniabat was the chief guest in the day's final and later he distributed the trophies.

In the day's final, national forward Rasel Mahmud Jimi struck two field goals in the 22nd and 36th minutes, penalty corner specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan and Krishna Kumar Das added two more goals in the 7th and 55th minutes, both from penalty corners while Moinul Islam Koushik sealed the fate of the match scoring one more field goal in the 58th minute for Navy.

Mohammad Nayemuddin, Manoj Babu, Mabubur Rahman and Hasan Jubair Niloy scored one each field goal for Bangladesh Army in the 18th, 43rd and 56th minutes respectively while Manoj Babu netted the other goal in 42nd minute from a penalty corner.
