Tigers start campaign facing Windies today

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza's Bangladesh will start their campaign in the Tri-Nation series taking on West Indies at the Castle Avenue in Dublin today (Tuesday), reports UNB.

The match will kick off at 03:45 pm Bangladesh time.

West Indies without some key players made a flying start in the opening match of the series outplaying hosts Ireland by massive 196 runs in Dublin on Monday, featuring a world breaking opening partnership of 365 runs by John Campbell (179) and Shai Hope (170).

On other hand, Bangladesh in the absence of captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and cutter master Mustafizur Rahman miserably suffered a humiliating 88-run defeat against the 2nd string Irish team-Ireland Wolves-in a practice match at the Hills Cricket Ground in Dublin on Monday, despite a half century by Shakib Al Hasan and three-wicket haul by pacer Taskin Ahmed.

Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took rest in the match while Mustafizur Rahman, who is yet to get his full fitness, also was sidelined.

Ireland A opened the innings first after winning the toss and posted a good total of 307 for 8 wickets in 50 overs featuring 124 runs in the 3rd wicket stand between centurion James McCollum (102) and Simi Singh (91).

Pacer Taskin Ahmed was the best among the Bangladesh bowler taking three wickets for 66 runs in 10 overs.

Another pacer Rubel Hossain grabbed two wickets for 63 runs in 9 overs while Farhad Reza, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each.

In reply, Bangladesh tumbled for 219 all-out in 42.2 overs to lose the game by a huge margin of 88 runs due to poor batting.

Bangladesh scored 56 runs in the opening stand but later they failed to chase the total losing wickets on regular intervals.

Shakib scored team highest 56 runs. But others were clueless to play against Irish bowling attack.

Mahmudullah Riyad (37), Tamim Iqbal (21), Liton Das (26), Mushfiqur Rahim (11), Mohammad Mithun (13), Sabbir Rahman (0), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (6), Farhad Reza (15), Taskin Ahmed (14) and Rubel Hossain (2) were the other batsmen to come to bat in the match.

For Ireland, India-born all-rounder Simi Singh took four wickets for 51 runs while Tyrone Kane took two wickets.

In the remaining matches of the double league basis tri-nation series, Bangladesh will play Ireland on May 9, West Indies again on May 13 and Ireland on May 15.

Later, top two teams will play final on May 17. All the matches will kick off at 3:45 pm Bangladesh time.
