Dhaka-Chandpur rail link planned

The government has a plan to connect Hilsa-rich Chandpur with Dhaka through railway as part of the countrywide move to develop the overall railway communication.

Education minister Dr Dipu Moni disclosed this on Monday adding that an integrated plan is underway for the overall development of Chandpur.

Chandpur currently has railway connectivity with the port city of Chittagong through Lakhsam.

Once executed, the train will run between Dhaka and Chittagong through Chandpur, she said. The rail-link between Chandpur and Laksham has been developed recently.

The minister was talking with leaders of Chandpur Journalists' Forum in Dhaka in the city.Pointing to some planned development work, she said steps are being undertaken to establish river-based international tourism in Chandpur, where tasting freshly-cooked Hilsa will be a major attraction.

A river-drive road will also be built on the bank of the Meghna in Chandpur, like that of marine drive on the Bay of Bengal in Cox's Bazar, said the minister.
