BD to take initiative to sign FTA with Brazil

Bangladesh would take an initiative to sign a Free Trade Area (FTA) deal with Brazil to boost bilateral trade. Commerce minister Tipu Munshi made the announcement after a view exchange meeting with Brazilian Ambassador to Bangladesh Joao Tabajara de Oliveira Junior at Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday. "Brazil is a potential market for Bangladeshi readymade garment products. There is huge opportunity to increase the trade volume with Brazil," he said. "There is huge demand for Bangladeshi products, including RMG, in Brazil. Brazilian traders are interested to do business with Bangladeshi traders while Brazil is very eager to increase trade with Bangladesh," said João Tabajara de Oliveira Junior. Senior officials of the commerce ministry were present at the meeting.

UNICEF, Le Méridien raising fund for children

UNICEF Bangladesh and Le Méridien Dhaka on Monday signed an agreement to raise fund for children in Bangladesh during Ramadan from May 5 to June 4. The agreement-signing ceremony was held at Le Méridien Dhaka hotel in the city, according to the organisers. Le Méridien Dhaka will support UNICEF Bangladesh by contributing US $ 1.0 per customer who purchases Sehri and Iftar buffets during the campaign, titled "Putting Every Child First this Ramadan". The campaign aims at raising awareness on the key issues affecting children in Bangladesh and supporting programmes that addresses basic needs of children. It also aims to enable guests of the hotel to make donations in three boxes that will be placed at the hotel throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
