RAKUB to disburse Tk 28.5b agri loans this fiscal

RAJSHAHI, Aug 24 (BSS): Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) has set a target to disburse agricultural loans worth Tk 28.50 billion (2,850 crore) in the country's northwest region in the current fiscal year to boost crop production as well as the rural economy.

The specialised commercial bank will disburse the loans through its 383 branches in all 16 districts under Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, said Managing Director of RAKUB AKM Sajedur Rahman Khan.

The bank has also set targets to recover loans amounting to Tk 23 billion (2,300 crore), including classified loans worth over Tk 7.85 billion (785.23 crore), and raise deposit collection to Tk 12 billion (1,200 crore).

Sajedur Khan said target has been set to disburse Tk 9.50 billion (950cr) for crop production, Tk 7.50 billion (750cr) for SMEs, Tk 500 million (50cr) for fisheries, Tk 1.0 billion (100cr) for livestock, Tk 400 million (40cr) for poverty reduction, Tk 350 million (35cr) for agro-based industries and Tk 100 million (10 crore) for farm machinery.

As the largest development partner in agriculture as well as agro-based industry sector in the northwest region, the bank has adopted an effective work plan which is being implemented at the grassroots level to attain all the targets within the stipulated time.

Meanwhile, the bank has already disbursed Tk 477.8 million (47.78 crore) loans from the Prime Minister's stimulus package for agriculture in the country's northwest region.

"We have disbursed the loan among 5,421 farmers through our different branches in all 16 districts till June 30 last," said Sajedur Khan, adding that the government has allocated fund worth Tk 3.19 billion (319 crore) from the stimulus package.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced a new stimulus package of Tk 50 billion (5,000 crore) in May last for farmers to boost agricultural production in the backdrop of the Covid-19 fallout.
