CAIRO, Nov 02 (Arab News): Sudan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of solar energy plants with a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW), the Sudanese energy ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

UAE, represented by one of its private companies, will supply, build, install and operate plants for 20 years, the energy ministry said, without specifying how many plants the deal would entail.

The Gulf country will also train and employ Sudanese workers throughout the contract period, with a commitment by the Sudanese government to purchase electricity at a competitive price, according to the statement.

Arab News adds from Dubai: The Dubai Startup Hub has launched its Scale-Up Dubai programme that will help fast-growing start-ups or scale-ups through tailored support and guidance as they expand beyond the UAE borders.

The startup hub, an initiative of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has piloted the initiative in scale-ups that have already developed viable businesses and benefited from their participation in earlier programmes, state news agency WAM reported.

The companies have joined interactive sessions and been offered opportunities to share their businesses with the public and private sectors, the report added.

Participants have also shared their technologies with government entities and businesses looking for innovation.
