GOPALGANJ, June 26: The cultivation of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy has begun in the district.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Gopalganj official sources, DAE has set a target to grow T-Aman paddy on 11,334 hectares of land with a production target of 34,003 tonnes of crop.

To make T-Aman cultivation a success in the district, the farmers have already been supplied fertiliser, pesticides and other necessary equipment in this connection, said Ramesh Chandra Bramha, deputy director (Agriculture) of Gopalganj.

BADC distributed quality seeds among the farmers.

"We are expecting to get a good T-Aman production this season. Besides our field-level officials have been encouraging the farmers to apply modern technology at their paddy fields", the official added.

Amir Hossain Mollah of Kunagram village of Majheegati union in Gopalganj Sadar said he and fellow farmers were passing busy time in preparing their cropland.

Hira Sarder of Babargati village under Sadar upazila said, "I will cultivate T-Aman paddy on two bighas of land this season. I will use BRRI Dhan-52 seeds so that I would get an abundant yield."

The Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) and others commercial banks are distributing short-term loan to the farmers so that the growers can cultivate the crop without any hassle.
