2.5km of Padma Bridge visible

MUNSHIGANJ, Nov 19 (UNB): Around 2.5km out of 6.15-km of the much-hyped Padma Bridge has become visible after installation of the 16th span on Tuesday noon.

The 16th span of the Padma Bridge was installed on Tuesday afternoon making 2.5km of the mega structure visible.

The '3-D' span was installed on pillars 16 and 17, said an engineer of Padma Bridge Project.

The authority took the 150-metre long span near the pillar on floating crane Tenai-e-Teh from Kumarbhog Construction Yard in Louhajang upazila at 10:00 am on Tuesday, he said.

The engineer said within few days the '4-D' span will be installed on pillars 22 and 23 while the authority will try to install another span on 21 and 22 pillars this month.

Work on the country's largest bridge until date started in December 2015. The structure started becoming visible with the installation of 150-metre span on pillars 37 and 38 on October 30, 2017.

The 6.15-kilometre two-storied bridge will have 41 spans, each 150 metres long.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on October 17, said the construction work on the Padma Bridge will be completed by June, 2021.
