Six iron rod thieves nabbed in Chattogram

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 20: Police arrested six alleged thieves including a gang leader who used to steal the rods and irons from the moving trucks of leading companies.

The arrested are identified as gang leader Mamun, Md Tanvir Hossain Foisal (23), Najimul Islam (20), Manik Hossain (32), Tushar Ahamed (18) and Raihan (21).

Sources said the arrested persons confessed that they are running a syndicate to steal iron and rods from the moving trucks within 10 minutes. They used to steal one or two tons of rod within the time from trucks of leading companies.

Assistant Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Ashikur Rahman told newsmen that police identified five syndicates of thieves who stole rods from running trucks every day. He said, "There are 26 thieves in the group. We have already nabbed five of them including a gang leader named Mamun."

He further said, "After the complaint of the BSRM authority, we were trying to catch the thieves and at last we nabbed five of them and I hope that the others will be nabbed soon."
