'Drug trader' dies in Jamalpur 'gunfight'

SHERPUR, July 22 (UNB): A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at bordering Dumurtala in Bakshiganj Upazila of Jamalpur district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Shipon Mia, 32, son of Jalal Uddin of Munshirchar village in Sadar Upazila of Sherpur.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area in the early hours of Monday, said AKM Mahbubul Alam, officer-in-charge of Bakshiganj thana.

At one stage, Shipon and his associates opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back.

Shipon sustained bullet injuries while trying to flee the scene. He was taken to Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the
