Hasan for following Bangabandhu's ideology to establish equity

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Friday called for following the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in establishing peace and equity in society, reports BSS.

He was addressing 'Bangabandhu Peace Award-2019' giving ceremony at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) seminar hall marking the 46 years of Bangabandhu's receiving of the Julio-Curie award.

The minister said after the Liberation War, Bangabandhu was taking ahead the war-ravaged country towards economic progress. When, the architect of independent Bangladesh was assassinated in 1975, the GDP growth rate was 7.4 per cent, he said.

"We can exceed the growth rate of 7.4 per cent in 2017-18 fiscal year after four decades of assassination of Bangabandhu. Had the great leader remained alive, Bangladesh would have exceeded Singapore and Malaysian in economic growth many years ago," he said.

Julio-Curie Bangabandhu Shanti Sangsad organised the function with its president Engineer Md Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan in the chair.

AL Advisory Council Member Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Ekattor Television Chief Editor Mozammel Babu, Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Sajjad Ali Jahir (retd), Roads and Highways Engineering Council General Secretary Engineer Dr Md Abdullah Al Mamun and Julio-Curie Bangabandhu Shanti Sangsad Chief Adviser Monaem Sarker, among others, addressed it. Water Resources Management and Climate Change Expert and Professor Emeritus at BRAC University Dr Ainun Nishat was given the Bangabandhu Peace Award-2019.
