Sheikh Russel off to a flying start

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra got off to a flying start in the Saif Power Battery 10th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football beating Muktijoddha Sangsad KC by 3-0 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city on Sunday, reports UNB.

Gambian booter Dawda Ceesay struck twice and Khalekuzzaman Sabuj netted one for the former champions, Sheikh Russel KC, which dominated the first half by 2-0 goals.

After a chase and counter-chase for half an hour, Sheikh Russel KC took the lead in the 34th minute by a brilliant goal by midfielder Sabuj.

 Sabuj put Sheikh Russel KC scored the goal by a spectacular header to open net from top of the box over advancing opponent custodian and defender (1-0).

Defender Atiqur Rahman Mishu delivered a cross from midfield when Muktijoddha goalie Uttam Barua came much forward to save and Sabuj headed the ball home deceiving two opponent defenders to rolling the ball inside the net.

Dawda Ceesay doubled the margin in the 37th minute by a cool left footer from the box making fool the three opponents defenders, off a cross of captain Shahedul Alam Shahed from midfield (2-0).

Dawda Ceesay further widened the Sheikh Russel margin in the 78th minute scoring his 2nd goal, also by a left footer from the box, utilising a cutback of midfielder Alamgir Kabir Rana (3-0).

Earlier, Sheikh Russel KC goalie Ziaur Rahman saved his side in the 49th minute as he denied Muktijoddha defender Tanvir Rana's header attempt from the box to keep the post intact.

The remaining part of the 2nd half was very much dull with less energetic show from the both sides.

Muktijoddha defender Monir Alam spoiled an opportunity in the 23rd minute as his powerful right-footed shot from the top corner of the box went out edging the right post.
