ABB elects new board of governors

The Association of Bankers, Bangladesh Limited (ABB) held its 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at MTB Tower in the city Saturday, said a statement.

A new Board of Governors for the association was elected at the AGM, which will remain in office for the two-year term 2018-2019.

Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO of Dhaka Bank Limited was elected as the Chairman, while Shafiqul Alam, Managing Director of Jamuna Bank Limited and Sohail R. K. Hussain Managing Director & CEO of The City Bank Limited were elected Vice Chairmen of ABB.

President & Managing Director of Bank Asia Md. Arfan Ali was elected as the Secretary General, while Managing Director & CEO of Pubali Bank Md. Abdul Halim Chowdhury was made Treasurer.

Other members of the new board of governors are: Immediate Past ABB Chairman and Managing Director & CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Limited Anis A. Khan, Managing Director & CEO of Eastern Bank Limited Ali Reza Iftekhar, Managing Director of United Commercial Bank Limited A.E.A. Muhaimen, Managing Director & CEO of EXIM Bank Limited Dr. Muhammad Haider Ali Miah, Managing Director of One Bank Limited M. Fakhrul Alam, Managing Director of Prime Bank Limited Rahel Ahmed, Managing Director & CEO of BRAC Bank Limited Selim R.F. Hussain, Managing Director & CEO of NRB Bank Limited Md. Mehmood Husain, Managing Director of First Security Islami Bank Limited Syed Waseque Md Ali, Managing Director & CEO of Midland Bank Limited Md. Ahsan-uz Zaman and K. Mahmood Sattar in the retired banker category.

Anis A. Khan, Chairman of ABB and Managing Director of Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTB) presided over the AGM, which was well attended by members of the association including CEOs, AMDs and DMDs of the banks in Bangladesh. CEOs of non-bank financial institutions also attended the event as special invitees.

Arif Quadri, Secretary General of ABB presented the Annual Report, while Dr. Mohammed Haider Ali Miah, Treasurer presented the audited balance sheet.

It may be noted that ABB will co-opt one more Vice Chairman from amongst the CEOs of the State owned Commercial Banks at its first Board of Governors meeting to be held in January 2018.
