A total of eight people were killed in separate road accidents in Bogura, Khulna, and Rajshahi districts on Saturday and Friday night.
In Bogura, four people were killed when a truck collided head-on with a pick-up van on the Bogura-Naogaon highway at Kazipara in Kahalu upazila of Bogura district on Saturday.
One of the deceased was identified as Lutfur Rahman, 50, a fish trader and son of Taiab Ali of Mymensingh district, while the identities of the others could not be known immediately.
The accident occurred around 10am when the Naogaon-bound goods-laden truck hit the pick-up van while overtaking a human hauler, leaving four people dead on the spot, said Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kahalu Police Station.
On information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
The bodies were sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
In Khulna, three members of a family were killed and another was injured when a truck rammed into a motorbike at Domra in Digholia upazila of Khulna district on Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Farzana Khatun, 26, wife of Shihab Sheikh; Maimuna, 2, daughter of Shihab; and Rubia Khatun, 16, sister-in-law of Shihab, of Kalia upazila in Narail district.
Shuvro Prakash, Officer-in-Charge of Digholia Police Station, said the accident occurred around 11:30pm when the Rupsha-bound truck from Gazirhat hit the motorbike carrying four people, leaving three dead on the spot and another injured.
In Rajshahi, two teenagers were killed and another was injured after a truck hit a motorcycle in front of Kesharhat Degree College under Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi on Friday night.
The accident occurred at around 8:30pm when a drum truck heading towards Rajshahi rammed the motorcycle from behind and fled the scene, said Mohanpur Fire Service Leader Rezwan Mondal.
He said three people riding the motorcycle sustained serious injuries in the accident. A team of Mohanpur Fire Service rushed to the spot after receiving the information, rescued the injured, and took them to Mohanpur Upazila Health Complex.
One of the victims, Limon, 16, son of Shafiqul Islam of Singhmara village in Mohanpur upazila, died on the spot.
Later, doctors at the health complex declared another victim, Ratul Mia, 15, son of Rafiz Uddin of Sankoa village, dead.
The injured Swadhin Mia, 17, was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for better treatment.
Additional Superintendent of Mohanpur Police, Helena Akhtar, confirmed the incident.
